Team: Sam, Dave, Ian, Gerry, Yi, James, Owen, Kum, Vince
Goals: Gerry, Vince, James
The first round saw a rather rusty ROTS, coming off a year-long hiatus, pitted against a quick and cohesive Nick Groarke. Lack of communication led poor, disorderly defensive efforts which saw ROTS fall behind early in the match through a series of quick goals from the opposition.
The introduction of Gerry saw him continue from where he left off the previous season of SWAT, scoring a goal shortly after coming off the bench, keeping ROTS in the game as half time approached.
The second half saw an improved team effort as we fought to overcome the deficit. Continued offensive pressure from Dave and Sam payed off as a penalty was won and converted. Soon after, James clinically slotted home from close range, reducing the deficit to 2 goals.
Tireless efforts from Sam, Dave, James and Yi helped maintain pocession and create attacking opportunities as we proved ourselves to be the better side in the second half. Ian, our interim 'keeper made a series of fine saves to keep us in the match.
However, the final siren sounded all too soon, leaving us to be content with a promising second half performance.
Although this wasn't the perfect start to the season we had hoped, we did show encouraging signs in the latter stages of the match which we can build on over our upcoming games.
